McM Chrome Opaline Sciolari Style Chandelier 5 Globe Space Age Atomic Sputnik

Authentic vintage late-1960s to 1970s Space Age / Atomic Era five-light chandelier featuring a sculptural polished-chrome frame with large white opaline-glass globe shades. The chandelier has a dramatic planetary appearance, with five sweeping chrome arms extending from the central cylindrical body and each supporting a spherical shade. The combination of polished chrome, white globe diffusers, curved architectural arms and suspended central stem is strongly associated with European and American Space Age lighting from the late Mid-Century Modern period. The overall design is reminiscent of period Italian lighting, including pieces associated with Gaetano Sciolari, and is being described as Sciolari style only. The fixture retains its vintage ceiling canopy, hanging loop, central stem, sockets, wiring and period Underwriters Laboratories label.

The aged yellow label is marked "Listed Electric Fixture, " "Union Made, " Issue C-249,821 and E-13580. The label style, construction materials, socket design, braided wiring and overall workmanship are consistent with an authentic period fixture rather than a modern reproduction.

Four of the five shades appear to be the original matching white opaline-glass globes, also commonly described as white opal glass or milk glass. They have a glossy exterior, softly diffused white body and wide rounded fitter openings. Each original globe measures approximately. 6 inches in overall diameter. Approximately 3 inches across the fitter opening.

Mounted using the fixture's spring-retaining clips. One original glass globe is no longer present. A previous owner substituted a white plastic globe in its place. The plastic replacement allows the chandelier to display with all five globes, but it does not perfectly match the four original glass shades in material, surface finish or color.

Replacement vintage and reproduction white opal-glass globes are available through vintage-lighting sellers and lighting-supply companies. An exact matching replacement is not included or guaranteed. The fixture uses five standard-size screw-base bulb sockets positioned beneath the globe shades. Each globe fits over its bulb and is retained by curved spring clips mounted around the socket platform. The clips compress during installation and apply outward pressure against the inside of the shade opening.

Four matching vintage opaline-glass globes. One white plastic replacement globe. Existing sockets and older wiring. Period UL and union label. This is an unrestored vintage lighting fixture showing age and wear consistent with several decades of use and storage. Surface dust, residue and general storage wear. Scratches, scuffs and marks on the glass shades.

Minor manufacturing irregularities within the vintage glass. Oxidation, tarnish and spotting on portions of the chrome and metal. Heavier oxidation and discoloration inside the ceiling canopy. Wear and aging to the suspension hardware.

One missing original opaline-glass globe. One mismatched plastic replacement globe. Older cloth-covered and insulated wiring. Existing aged sockets and internal electrical components. The four glass shades should be inspected carefully in the listing photographs.

No major breakage has been observed in the four original globes, but they may have minor scratches, small rim imperfections, bubbles, waviness or other characteristics associated with vintage molded or blown glass. The chandelier retains older wiring and has not been professionally restored or certified for installation. Because of its age, the chandelier should be inspected, rewired if necessary and installed by a qualified electrician before use.

No representation is made that the existing wiring, sockets, insulation or connections currently meet modern electrical codes. Low-heat LED bulbs would be preferable after professional inspection and installation. The fixture should not be operated with high-wattage incandescent bulbs unless an electrician confirms an appropriate safe wattage. This is a substantial chandelier with a wide, sculptural profile. The approximately 6-inch globe shades give it considerably more visual presence than many smaller modern reproductions.

It would make a strong statement in a. Space Age or Atomic-style room. Please review every photograph closely for the exact design, finish, shade condition, wiring, hardware and signs of age. Photographs are an important part of the description. This chandelier is not being represented as an authenticated Gaetano Sciolari fixture.

The phrase "Sciolari style" is used only to describe its visual relationship to chrome-and-opaline Space Age lighting associated with that designer and period. Four original white opaline-glass globe shades are present. The fifth original globe is missing and has been replaced with a white plastic globe. Chrome and metal show oxidation, scratches, tarnish and age-related wear.

Older wiring remains in place. Fixture is untested and should be professionally inspected, rewired if needed and installed by a qualified electrician before use. Please examine all photographs carefully.

The sculptural chrome frame and large white opaline-glass globes reflect the Space Age lighting movement of the 1960s and 1970s. The design shares visual characteristics with period lighting associated with Gaetano Sciolari, Robert Sonneman, Gino Sarfatti, Stilnovo, and Carlo Nason for Mazzega. &####128230; ITEM CONDITION & DESCRIPTION.
