See old albumen photos and an engraving with Bell Jar Lanterns: the 1st image is of a British colonial era council hall in 1870 with bell jar lamps hanging from the ceiling. The 2nd is an 1890 photo with a bell lamp hanging near a colonial era club's doorway, interestingly four tennis rackets can also be seen hanging on a frame on the left side of the door. The 3rd is another 1890 photo of the interior of Tanjore Palace with a cluster of bell jar lamps hanging near a white statue. The lamp measures - total drop height (adjustable) is 26 cm (10 inch).
Glass bell jar's height 15 cm (6 inch). The open diameter of the bell jar is 11¾ cm (4½ inch). The glass smoke cap is to prevent blackening of the ceiling from the smoke emitted by the oil lamp/candle that was placed inside the bell jar.
